Power Bank Might Have Ignited the Blaze in Aircraft

An Airbus aircraft operated by South Korean airline Air Busan ignited on Tuesday at Gimhae International Airport in the southern region of the country while getting ready for its flight to Hong Kong, according to fire officials. Local news sources indicated that the fire on Air Busan Flight 391, which erupted around 10:15 PM, might have been triggered by a portable battery stored in an overhead compartment.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire that affected the Air Busan aircraft at Gimhae International Airport in the southern region of the country on Tuesday. However, local media reports indicate that a power bank stored in an overhead locker may have ignited the blaze.

Initially, authorities reported that three individuals were injured, but this number was later revised to seven on Wednesday. According to the country’s transport ministry, one person remains hospitalized. A total of 169 passengers, along with seven flight attendants and staff members, were evacuated from the Airbus A321 using inflatable slides.

After this incident, airline passengers are advised to check that their power banks are in good condition and from trusted brands before boarding flights, as experts have issued this warning following a suspected fire caused by a charging device on an aircraft preparing to depart from South Korea to Hong Kong.
